Rumors have been circulating on the Internet that Apple may be launching the new iPhone 5 by end September. According to Gizmodo.com, an AT&T employee has informed them that no vacations would be permitted for that period, something that was done in the past when an iPhone was released.

Other rumors suggest that the new iPhone will be thinner but the face will be bigger to accommodate a larger screen. The leak seems to have originated from iPhone case manufacturers who have previously received reliable information from their industry sources. The latest phone is also said lighter, with the A5 processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

Release dates for Microsoft’s ‘Mango’ based phones by Samsung, HTC and LG are also rumored to around the same time, adding further credibility to iPhone 5 rumored dates, stressing that the dates are coordinated to be able to better compete with Apple’s phone. Microsoft based phones have been hoping for a boost in market share with major brands like Nokia backing the software giant and launching their new smart phones by October.

It irks me when I buy a gadget and the price drops a few weeks later, especially if it’s a whopping $80. I guess someone told Nintendo. That’s why despite the drop in Nintendo 3DS prices from $249 to $169 targeted for August 12, 2011, old customers have something to gain as well. To be exact Nintendo will offer current console owners 10 free Game Boy Advance titles on 09.01.11, as long as they’re logged into the Nintendo eShop before 08.12.11, as well as ten free NES games.

Nintendo may have reduced prices to meet volume targets despite a significant reduction in margin or in anticipation of the release of its premium E3 list titles including Kid Icarus. Seems like a win-win situation so far. But then again only time will tell.

3D viewing is catching momentum in cinemas, gaming and now in your sitting room. Panasonic’s Full HD 3D VIERA VT plasma TVs are just one of several options available in the market these days for 3D viewing. Panasonic utilizes Full-HD Frame Sequential technology for images recorded in 1920 x 1080 pixels for right and left eye which flash alternately on the screen at a fast rate of 120 frames per second. FULL HD 3D pictures with reasonable realism are viewed through active-shutter glasses in which each lens opens and closes in sync with the alternating images.

So the obvious question to ask is what about 3D programming and movies available for 3D viewing at home? Panasonic’s unique technology converts 2D images into into high-quality 3D images in real-time generating a crisp depth effect whether you’re watching Blue-Ray, DVD movies or regular TV broadcasts. Panasonic’s Super Resolution function minimizes double imaging as well, which though largely controlled in 3D theaters is still evident. Other features include THX Certified Display Program to reproduce cinema like quality and deep blacks as well as a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is available and allows you to access a range of Internet content using the remote control. The ability to use Skype is another useful feature for the entire family to use.

Be sure to check other makes and models and see a demo before you buy a TV – the above post has details obtained from the Panasonic website.

The HP 1020 LaserJet printer is one of the most successful monochrome printers for personal and small business use. Its reliability, adequate printing speed and clear quality have made it a vital part of computer related arsenal for homes and firms across the world.

If you’re looking for the 1020 LaserJet printer driver the best place to look is at HP. If you have a MAC OS X system, you will need to use a 1022 driver to operate the 1020 printer successfully (according to most forums).

1020 Driver Windows

1020 Driver Mac OS X

The HP 1020 LaserJet printer utilizes the Q2612A Black Print Toner Cartridge, which lasts an average of 2000 pages. Instead of repeatedly buying expensive new toners, you can use several cheaper kits (DIY) and services for refilling these cartridges with pretty good results. An original toner cartridge can be easily refilled at least twice without compromising quality.

Don’t forget to buy or sell HP printers through our free classifieds. Here are the 1020 printer specifications found on the HP website.

Hywind, the world’s first 2.3 megawatt floating wind turbine built by State-controlled Norwegian oil company StatoilHydro in collaboration with Siemens, was towed to sea off Norway’s coast this weekend. The Hywind, with a rotor diameter the length of a football pitch, will be tested for two years to determine the feasibility of developing offshore wind farms that are “out of sight”. Floating turbines can alleviate problems associated with onshore wind farms such as military radar operations, bird life and tourism and present added benefits such as stronger, more consistent winds found at sea and power generating capabilities for countries with limited suitable land. According to BBC, “The global market for such turbines is potentially enormous”, depending on how low the costs are pressed.

Floating turbines connect to mainland grids through cables laid across the sea floor, with the cable length a major determinant in the cost of the setup. Although floating turbines currently cost substantially more than fixed ones, StatoilHydro is confident that this will change in the near future. The other factor that may help promote floating turbines is the impact of global warming on wind strength. A recent study conducted in several U.S. cities shows that climate change has resulted in considerably lower wind speeds over land and may result in a drop of up to thirty percent in onshore wind-power production.

You can watch the floating turbine being towed to sea in the video below.

Several studies have shown that exercise combined with music is good not just for the body but helps the brain perform better as well. According to a study conducted in Ohio, heart patients who exercised with music performed twice as well on verbal fluency tests, in the last stages of their cardiac rehabilitation program, than control subjects who exercised without music. Music also helps people perform better, longer and maintain movement flow during their workout.

So which MP3 Player should you use during your exercise routine? Here are three MP3 players that should cover a pretty broad spectrum of exercise types.

W-Series Walkman® MP3 Player - Wearable Music (Official Write-up)

Available on Amazon for $81.25

The W-series Walkman MP3 player boasts an industrial design that is simple and cord-free. Perfect for audiophiles who seek a second device for the gym and leisure use, the NWZ-W202 model is a showcase of Sony hardware expertise and sound engineering — all within an active headphone design. This design eliminates the inconvenience of wires and makes it easier to listen to music virtually anywhere, anytime.

In addition to the sound quality provided by its 13.5mm EX headphones, the new W-series Walkman MP3 player also includes Sony’s ZAPPIN™ function, which offers an effortless way of browsing, searching and listening to music without a display. The ZAPPIN mode, operated with a Jog Dial, helps you find tunes easily by playing popular clips of each song in your device’s music library until a favorite is selected.

Fitness fanatics or those who do anything active while listening to music are freed from headphone cords with the W-series Walkman MP3 player. With its compact, light weight body, this design fits comfortably behind-the-neck. The new player also offers a quick charge feature which allows the device to play back up to 90 minutes of music with only a three-minute charge and up to 12 hours of music with a full charge. By eliminating cords, the W-series Walkman MP3 player makes taking your music with you that much easier.

With the supplied "Content Transfer" you can easily transfer non-DRM music files by "drag and drop" from online music services such as iTunes™ to the Walkman device. It also comes with accessories, including a holder and charging stand with a USB miniB plug.

Finis SwiMP3 v.2 - Adding Music to the Water (Official Write-up)

Available on Amazon for $134.95

MP3 players have become extremely popular in the last decade. However, the pleasure of enjoying high quality mp3 files during exercise had been confined only to land sports. Determined to provide workout music for swimmers to enjoy as well, The FINIS Development Team set out to create a personal waterproof mp3 player that transmitted the best sounding music. After nearly 2 years of research and development, the first SwiMP3 prototype was created in 2004. A year later, the revolutionary SwiMP3 was released into the market and was quickly regarded by TIME Magazine as one of the top inventions for 2005.

In the spring of 2007, FINIS revamped their original SwiMP3 design and released the SwiMP3 v.2. The new player has a sleek finish, with all the controls built directly into the side panels. The memory capacity doubled and the new player was adapted to play both MP3 and WMA file types.

The SwiMP3 underwater MP3 player provides an incredible audio experience through its innovative sound transfer technology. Standard mp3 players rely on the transmission of sound through the air or water causing the swimmer to perceive only muffled noise. The SwiMP3 uses bone conduction - the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear - to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity. The SwiMP3 is fully waterproof and can be used with all the competitive swim strokes. Just imagine listening to hours of your own music in high-fidelity during your swim.

Product Features

Attaches easily to any swim goggle or snorkeling mask
Built in MP3 control panel
On/Off button
Next / Previous track
Volume control
Pause & Shuffle functions
8-hour rechargeable battery
60-song (256MB) memory capacity
Plays both MP3 & WMA files

Yamaha BODiBEAT - Synchronizes your Music to the Movement of your Workout (Official Write-up)

Available in the U.S. for 299.95

Introducing BODiBEAT, the first portable fitness device/MP3 player with built-in heart rate monitor that naturally synchronizes your music to the movement of your workout. Imagine having just one all-in-one workout device, automatically sensing and synchronizing the rhythm of your music to the movement of your workout. It’s perfect for running, cross country, treadmills and walking. It’s like a high-tech personal trainer you can take with you every time you move. It motivates, tracks your workouts and measures results.

Just load songs into BODiBEAT like you would any other MP3 player – or listen to one of the pre-loaded music mixes. BODiBEAT automatically plays songs with tempos that match your movement, whether you’re running, walking or cooling down. For the ultimate motivation, you can easily program BODiBEAT to pace you on an interval workout – giving you the right tempo for the right stage.

iPhone’s recent, well deserved publicity related to its incredible applications has yet again established the ‘must have’ status of this phone. Here are just a few of the novel and unique ways the iPhone has been put to use.

iPhone used to Paint the June Cover of New Yorker

Artist Jorge Colombo used the $4.99 application Brushes to paint the cover of the June issue of New Yorker. The scene depicts a crowd hanging around a hot dog stand on 42nd Street in New York City. According to an article in the New York Times, the thing that appealed the most to Colombo was the anonymity of painting on an iPhone.

“Absolutely nobody can tell I am drawing,” Mr. Colombo said. “In fact, once I was doing the drawing at some place, and my wife was around, and they asked her why did I have to work so hard? I seemed to be always on my iPhone sending messages.”

See the video on how the cover took shape.

iPhone can Help Autistic Children

According to a story published in USA Today, the iPhone helped an autistic child communicate with his parents after years of using more conventional methods. Seven year old JW, like many autistic children, did not speak at all. His parents were considering the purchase of an expensive text-to-speech device when a teacher told them about a new application developed for the iPhone and iPod. Leslie. JW’s mother, purchased an iPod Touch and downloaded the very affordable application, Proloquo2Go, from iTunes.

Within a month JW was using his Touch to communicate with people and issue voice commands to his service dog, Roscoe. Proloquo2Go assists people with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, ALS and patients who have lost speech capabilities due to sever medical conditions. According to Leslie:

“He’s actually communicating,” she says. “It’s nice to see what’s going on in his head.”

Among the revelations of the past month: She now knows JW’s favorite restaurant. “I get to spend at least every other day at the Chinese buffet.”

iPhone replaces Attendance Register in a Japanese University

In an attempt to improve attendance, a Japanese University is giving hundreds of free iPhones to its first and second year students as part of an ongoing experiment. The iPhones come with GPS trackers that allow professors to check class attendance without students signing a sheet or handing in their signed attendance cards. In the past students have been known to get friends to answer roll call or hand in fake cards. The university feels that this will not be the case with iPhones as most students would not want to share their personal contacts and details with fellow students.

The iPhone will also be used to build professor-student networks, convey course material, broadcast lecture videos and maybe even take tests. American universities too are using iPhones for professor-student networks, with several top universities making iPhones a mandatory requirement for certain courses.

See how it works in the video below.

The technology is remarkably user friendly, engaging and fun to use. With the kind of buzz being generated and boundless applications for which it can be adapted, we can expect to see Surface in restaurants, hotels, retail stores and casinos pretty soon.

There are already plans of releasing a 46-inch model to complement the currently available 30-inch Surface.

Apart from the US and several European countries Surface is now also available in Qatar and UAE.
