I’ve been there! Comparing web hosts and trying to determine the best choice for my website… what a massive headache. Being entirely new to the Internet industry I depended on experts , but every person I asked mentioned some new angle and managed to multiply, as opposed to lessen, my problems. Limited or unlimited bandwidth and emails? A business or basic plan? Its been over a year now and learning through hard experiences, which I would wish upon no one, I have learnt that:
an extra dollar a month isn’t really worth saving when it comes to 99.9% up time versus very pi**ed off customers.

it is safer to choose a hosting company that tens of thousands of people trust their domains to (not a few thousand).

be suspicious of too many free services for an unusually low price (I mean $3.00 or below).

unless you have a successful business, don’t subscribe to that dedicated server just yet. Take some time to examine terms like ‘bandwidth’ and ‘disk space’ for a web host and match it with your needs.

don’t judge a web host by the name. Some of the largest, most successful and professional web hosts have unusual names (wait till you study the list below).

get an experienced professional website developer and designer. Utilize a reasonably priced service on the web. Trust me, it can save you a lot of time.

spend time focusing on building a brand name, traffic and lots of business. NOTHING ELSE.

Now that I’m done with my sermon, I’d like to present below an easy comparison of the best, most affordable hosting services around. The sites mentioned are popular globally including countries like USA, UK, New Zealand, Indonesia, Australia, Pakistan, India, South Africa, Canada, Philippines, Thailand, Romania, Malaysia and Mexico.

So why have I incorporated Google’s page rank and Alexa’s traffic rank in the comparison? For those of you who who are unaware of either metric (something that will change astronomically once you start your own web business soon) these statistics represent a site’s importance, popularity and the number of visitors the website receives.

Keep in mind that the higher Google’s Page Rank the more important the site in Google’s eyes (8 being better than 4) and the lower Alexa’s traffic rank, the more visitors it receives (100 would mean that Alexa ranks the website as 100th out of the millions of websites out there and is a better score than say 10,000). A great Google and Alexa rank show that the website receives hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of visitors every month.

And to make life easier, I am also including a simple online For-Ex calculator to help convert to the currency of your choice while you compare the choices. Good luck and happy hunting!!

The Honda Insight is a hybrid launched in direct competition with Toyota’s widely successful Prius, which has sold over one million units already. Honda’s new Eco Assist System helps manage better mileage for drivers and claims to be an intelligent system that learns with time. All three models of the Insight are cheaper than Toyota’s comparable Prius models and according to Honda, saves substantially more on fuel costs. The Honda car game requires players to blow into a mic plugged into your PC to increase or decrease the speed of the car depending on the incline the car is travelling on. More instructions at the Honda site. I have included a few Insight video commercials below for your viewing. Have fun and happy blowing!

The HP 1020 LaserJet printer is one of the most successful monochrome printers for personal and small business use. Its reliability, adequate printing speed and clear quality have made it a vital part of computer related arsenal for homes and firms across the world.

If you’re looking for the 1020 LaserJet printer driver the best place to look is at HP. If you have a MAC OS X system, you will need to use a 1022 driver to operate the 1020 printer successfully (according to most forums).

1020 Driver Windows

1020 Driver Mac OS X

The HP 1020 LaserJet printer utilizes the Q2612A Black Print Toner Cartridge, which lasts an average of 2000 pages. Instead of repeatedly buying expensive new toners, you can use several cheaper kits (DIY) and services for refilling these cartridges with pretty good results. An original toner cartridge can be easily refilled at least twice without compromising quality.

If you like creamy, rich cheese and are looking for a healthier alternative, goat cheese is your answer.

If you like creamy, rich cheese and are looking for a healthier alternative, goat cheese is your answer. Compared to cream cheese made from cow’s milk, cheese made from goat’s milk contains nearly forty percent less fat, thirty percent less cholesterol, twenty percent less calories, fewer carbohydrates and a lot more calcium and proteins. In fact, most lactose intolerant people who can’t have cow’s milk can digest goat milk products due to their ‘naturally homogenized’ nature.

Here are some interesting recipes for you to try this summer and don’t forget to let us know how they turned out.

Goat Cheese Pakora

Ingredients

20 one inch cubes of Goat Cheese

Pakora Mix (Shan or National). If not available in your area you can find several recipes to make pakora batter on the net

½ Teaspoon blended mint leaves

4 green chilies

Olive oil for deep frying

Salt, pepper and mustard powder to taste

Mercedes Benz, the luxury car manufacturer, has 26 mixed tape collections available for free download on its website! And there’s a new mix out every two months. I had no idea. The retro, nostalgic title and a shortage of fresh tunes were enticement enough for me to download the latest compilation two nights ago. No regrets. I’ve been listening to it continuously since, drifting into imaginary scenarios of driving by the ocean with the top down - pretty far from reality. The tracks cater to an assortment of moods and tastes including groove, jazz and ambient. It’s well worth the twenty to thirty minutes it takes to download.

The promotional video for “Mixed Tape 26” below provides a brief introduction to the artists featured on the mix and can be viewed below.

Grand Paris, a vision of the city and its suburbs in 2030, is a project initiated by President Nicolas Sarkozy, partly to stay abreast (and ahead of) other global metropolitan cities and partly to create a greener, more environmentally friendly Paris. The pictures shown above are a few of the designs handed over to Sarkozy by ten of the top planning firms in the region. The goal is to have skyscrapers and structures that are partly powered by wind and solar energy, with elevated rapid transit connecting the suburbs to the city center. The images displayed during an exhibit called “Le Grand Paris”, received mixed reviews with some Parisians showing concern over lost identity and others eagerly anticipating a potential source of new jobs.

Incidentally, way back in 1889, the Parisians were not too sold on the idea of a towering hunk of metal in the heart of their beloved city, albeit the then, tallest structure in the world. In fact, the Paris elite almost succeeded in tearing the Eiffel Tower down in 1909 (the tower was spared due to its extreme practical value). What a shame that would have been for the two hundred million plus people who have since visited one of the world’s most well known monuments!

Don’t forget to share your comments and thoughts below.

Hywind, the world’s first 2.3 megawatt floating wind turbine built by State-controlled Norwegian oil company StatoilHydro in collaboration with Siemens, was towed to sea off Norway’s coast this weekend. The Hywind, with a rotor diameter the length of a football pitch, will be tested for two years to determine the feasibility of developing offshore wind farms that are “out of sight”. Floating turbines can alleviate problems associated with onshore wind farms such as military radar operations, bird life and tourism and present added benefits such as stronger, more consistent winds found at sea and power generating capabilities for countries with limited suitable land. According to BBC, “The global market for such turbines is potentially enormous”, depending on how low the costs are pressed.

Floating turbines connect to mainland grids through cables laid across the sea floor, with the cable length a major determinant in the cost of the setup. Although floating turbines currently cost substantially more than fixed ones, StatoilHydro is confident that this will change in the near future. The other factor that may help promote floating turbines is the impact of global warming on wind strength. A recent study conducted in several U.S. cities shows that climate change has resulted in considerably lower wind speeds over land and may result in a drop of up to thirty percent in onshore wind-power production.

You can watch the floating turbine being towed to sea in the video below.

The yet untitled documentary due for release this fall, focuses on the economy and how Corporate America’s antics led us to one of the worst recessions the world has ever seen. The teaser showed Moore asking audiences for donations to a fictitious organization called ‘Save Our CEOs’, to help save the ‘real’ victims of the recession. Ushers wearing ‘Save our CEOs’ collected donations from audiences after the trailer, the proceeds for which will actually be sent to local food banks.

So what did the audiences think? According to a post on Beliefnet, the stunt received a lot of hoots and applause! See the video below.

Although there has been debate about the accuracy of the JACDEC Safety Index, it appears to be one of the more commonly quoted indexes related to airline and aircraft safety. Ranks for airlines safety have been calculated using factors such as Accident Free Years, Hull Losses and the corresponding Number of Crash Fatalities. Aircraft safety has been tabulated by date with the more recent ones shown on top. I chose to include only the more common Boeing and Airbus aircrafts from the year 2000 onwards for this post.

(Sad to see PIA’s still close to the bottom)

According to a study conducted in Ohio, heart patients who exercised with music performed twice as well on verbal fluency tests, in the last stages of their cardiac rehabilitation program, than control subjects who exercised without music. Music also helps people perform better, longer and maintain movement flow during their workout.

So which MP3 Player should you use during your exercise routine? Here are three MP3 players that should cover a pretty broad spectrum of exercise types.

W-Series Walkman® MP3 Player - Wearable Music (Official Write-up)

Available on Amazon for $81.25

The W-series Walkman MP3 player boasts an industrial design that is simple and cord-free. Perfect for audiophiles who seek a second device for the gym and leisure use, the NWZ-W202 model is a showcase of Sony hardware expertise and sound engineering — all within an active headphone design. This design eliminates the inconvenience of wires and makes it easier to listen to music virtually anywhere, anytime.

In addition to the sound quality provided by its 13.5mm EX headphones, the new W-series Walkman MP3 player also includes Sony’s ZAPPIN™ function, which offers an effortless way of browsing, searching and listening to music without a display. The ZAPPIN mode, operated with a Jog Dial, helps you find tunes easily by playing popular clips of each song in your device’s music library until a favorite is selected.

Fitness fanatics or those who do anything active while listening to music are freed from headphone cords with the W-series Walkman MP3 player. With its compact, light weight body, this design fits comfortably behind-the-neck. The new player also offers a quick charge feature which allows the device to play back up to 90 minutes of music with only a three-minute charge and up to 12 hours of music with a full charge. By eliminating cords, the W-series Walkman MP3 player makes taking your music with you that much easier.

With the supplied "Content Transfer" you can easily transfer non-DRM music files by "drag and drop" from online music services such as iTunes™ to the Walkman device. It also comes with accessories, including a holder and charging stand with a USB miniB plug.

Finis SwiMP3 v.2 - Adding Music to the Water (Official Write-up)

Available on Amazon for $134.95

MP3 players have become extremely popular in the last decade. However, the pleasure of enjoying high quality mp3 files during exercise had been confined only to land sports. Determined to provide workout music for swimmers to enjoy as well, The FINIS Development Team set out to create a personal waterproof mp3 player that transmitted the best sounding music. After nearly 2 years of research and development, the first SwiMP3 prototype was created in 2004. A year later, the revolutionary SwiMP3 was released into the market and was quickly regarded by TIME Magazine as one of the top inventions for 2005.

In the spring of 2007, FINIS revamped their original SwiMP3 design and released the SwiMP3 v.2. The new player has a sleek finish, with all the controls built directly into the side panels. The memory capacity doubled and the new player was adapted to play both MP3 and WMA file types.

The SwiMP3 underwater MP3 player provides an incredible audio experience through its innovative sound transfer technology. Standard mp3 players rely on the transmission of sound through the air or water causing the swimmer to perceive only muffled noise. The SwiMP3 uses bone conduction - the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear - to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity.
