Due for release in October, the 2009 Aptera 2e rolled out its pre-production model in the US this month. Despite appearances, the Aptera has an exceptionally sturdy body and its aerodynamic shape ensures minimum drag. It runs on a lithium-based battery designed to charge using an ordinary electric outlet and gives an average of 100 miles per charge. The Aptera can hit 0-60mph in 10 seconds with a maximum speed of 90mph. With its reasonable price and a substantial amount of bookings already in place, Aptera has the potential to be trendsetter in a recently ‘carbon-emission’ conscious US.

Jay Leno, car fanatic and talk show host, took the 2009 Aptera 2e for a test run and spoke to Paul Wilbur, Aptera’s CEO and President, about the technology, aerodynamics and energy saving features of the car. The video below also shows Leno driving the Aptera up to a speed of 70 mph on the California highway.
